Born in the United States, Andrew Schulz works as a comedian, actor, and podcaster behind The Brilliant Idiots while maintaining a reputation for standup marked by kinetic, unapologetic observational humor. His television credits include the series Benders, which aired in 2015, and There's... Johnny!, which premiered in 2017. After more than ten years on the circuit, he issued his debut comedy album, 5:5:1 (5 Clubs, 5 Sets, 1 Night): A NYC Comedy Experience..., through 800 Pound Gorilla Records in 2018; the project ascended to the top of the Billboard comedy albums chart.

Although Schulz grew up in Manhattan's East Village, his introduction to performing occurred in California while he attended UC Santa Barbara. Already an admirer of standup, he first took the stage only after coworkers at his restaurant job urged him to try a comedy night there. He soon moved back to New York, secured regular spots at the Comedy Village, and began appearing at additional clubs throughout the city, making his Edinburgh Comedy Festival debut in 2008.

Schulz joined the cast of the MTV2 comedy-reality program Guy Code in 2011 and later appeared on its spin-off Guy Court. In 2014 he partnered with fellow MTV2 alum Charlamagne tha God to launch and co-host The Brilliant Idiots, a podcast focused on current events and pop culture. While maintaining that series, he played a lead role in the eight-episode IFC comedy Benders in 2015, appeared in the feature Victor that same year, and began a recurring part on the Amazon crime drama Sneaky Pete that ran from 2015 to 2017. He was also cast in the Hulu series There's…Johnny!, which centered on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, in 2017.
