Biography
For five decades Andy Hamilton instructed students and performed his distinctive synthesis of calypso and traditional jazz throughout Birmingham, England. The tenor saxophonist reached the age of 72 before issuing his first recording, Silvershine, which appeared in 1992. Two years afterward he documented the live set Jamaica by Night at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival, an album that features Jean Toussaint on tenor sax, Graeme Hamilton on trumpet, Bernardo Sassetti and Sam Brown on piano, Chris Lamptey on guitar, Wayne Batchelor on bass, Winston Clifford on drums, and Carlos Valdes on congas and percussion.
