Born on 7 August 1965 in Brooklyn, New York, USA, Moraes stood out among the mid-90s influx of New York DJs and remixers while also ranking among its most productive members. Before making his initial club appearances as a DJ in the mid-80s, he had earned his living as a Manhattan truck driver. During the 90s he obtained engagements at numerous leading New York venues, among them the Sound Factory, where his notoriously ‘smooth and soulful’ mixing drew large audiences. His debut single, ‘Release Yourself’, appeared in 1993, after which further club successes arrived with ‘Heaven Knows’, ‘Welcome To The Factory’ and ‘I Like It’. In the mid-90s alone he issued several mix compilations across multiple labels, one of them on his own Hot N’ Spycy imprint. Additional remix credits for London Records, Subversive and Tribal Records encompass the Pet Shop Boys, k.d. lang and Funky Green Dogs. Moraes further assisted in founding the Stereo club in Montreal, an undertaking that directly inspired Back From Stereo, his first album of original material.
