Formed in Colombia in 1991, the death/metal band Angel Negro began with singer/guitarist Mauricio Belalcazar, who brought in drummer Alberto Escobar and bassist William Monroy at the outset. Silvio Herrera stepped in as the ensemble’s principal vocalist the next year. Angel Negro laid down its first album, Sala 8, in 1994 for release on Antiphonas Records, and the self-produced Guillain Barre followed in June 1996. William Monroy and Alberto Escobar exited around that period, yielding their positions to bassist Andrés Mora and drummer Fabián Aguirre.
