Biography
Angelique "Angie" Winans emerged as a gospel singer, songwriter, and musician within a sizable household of exceptionally talented performers. She contributed to multiple projects alongside siblings CeCe, BeBe, and Debbie Winans, as well as additional collaborators. Her first independent effort arrived in 2001 via Against the Flow Records.
Born in spring 1968 as the ninth of ten children, she grew up amid a household devoted equally to gospel music and family life. Early lessons on piano and voice led to initial performances at home before moving into church settings. During adolescence, brothers Michael, Ron, Carvin, and Marvin Winans established themselves as the group the Winans, while BeBe & CeCe Winans launched their own recording path.
At age fifteen she entered professional work as a background vocalist supporting BeBe & CeCe, with youngest sibling Debbie Winans participating as well. Following ten years in that supporting role, Angie and Debbie secured a Capitol Records contract in 1993 and issued their self-titled debut. Favorable notices, several crossover tracks, and opening slots on Whitney Houston’s tour quickly expanded their audience across both gospel and R&B listeners.
After accumulating experience as producer, pianist, songwriter, and vocalist, Angie released her solo debut Melodies of My Heart in 2001. Its songs include “The Lord’s Prayer,” “Changing My Whole Life,” “He Loves Me,” “Lady Wisdom,” “Roses Again,” and “Come Go With Me.”
