Biography
Anotha Level emerged as a quartet of old-school-obsessed MCs from Los Angeles, California, USA, consisting of Ced Twice, Stenge, Imani and Bambino. Producer Laylaw, formerly manager of Above The Law, took the group under his wing after having worked on tracks for Ice Cube and Yo Yo. Ice Cube, who served as executive producer of the album, appeared alongside the crew on the track ‘Level-N-Service’, while the Pharcyde contributed to ‘Phat-T’. Themes of girls and Super Nintendo dominated the debut release, and several cuts such as ‘Don’t Stimulate’ carried sexist attitudes without crossing into outright offense. The opening number ‘Let Me Tell Ya’ stood out as perhaps the strongest selection, thanks in part to the presence of dancehall DJ Don Jagwarr.
