Antler came together in 2002 and challenged conventional notions of location by crafting authentic Southern rock while based in Boston, Massachusetts. There, Craig Riggs on vocals and Tim Catz on guitar, who had previously been part of the stoner rock outfit Roadsaw, assembled with guitarist Pete Valle, keyboardist Dave Unger, bassist Mike Quinn, and drummer Brian Strawn for the band's self-titled debut album on Tortuga Records in 2004. Following the departure of Valle, who was succeeded on lead guitar by Ian Ross, and Quinn, whose bass duties went to Marc Schleicher, the group reunited to craft their follow-up release, Nothing That a Bullet Couldn't Cure, which Small Stone issued at the beginning of 2006.
