Apophys

Formed in 2012 in the Netherlands, Apophys came together as a technically proficient, science-fiction-oriented death metal group linked to God Dethroned, Prostitute Disfigurement, Detonation, and Toxocara, built around vocalist Kevin Quilligan, drummer Michiel van der Plicht, bass player Mickeal Schuurman, and guitarists Sanne van Dijk and Koen Romeijn. The hard-hitting quintet took its name from near-Earth asteroid 99942 Apophis, an object that sparked widespread concern in 2004 when calculations indicated a possible catastrophic collision with Earth in 2029; their 2013 demo subsequently drew the attention of Metal Blade, resulting in a contract the following year. Echoing the style of Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, and Suffocation, the band issued its debut album, Prime Incursion, in March 2015.
