Biography
Formed at the start of 2000 in the remote coastal Alaskan settlement of Cordova, Arctic Cool arose from the partnership of Barry Becket and Fred Waltz, who joined forces simply to pass the time. Their unusual lineup featured flute alongside saxophone by Beckett, guitar, and drum machine by Weltz, yielding a distinctive blend of rock, jazz, and bluegrass delivered through minimalist production that "utilizes woodstove and computer technologies." That approach defined their independently issued, self-titled debut album from 2001, captured in an attic belonging to a friend.
