Biography
Arise and Ruin, the Canadian metalcore outfit from Guelph, Ontario, assembled in June 2005 with Ryan Bauchman handling vocals, Brent Munger and Greg Richmond on guitar, Ben Alexis on bass, and Derek Prince-Cox on drums. Equal parts American metal and European thrash shaped their sound, whose aggression soon drew notice from Stereo Dynamite Recordings in nearby Toronto. The label signed the band and released their debut EP, The Fear Of, in April 2006. Favorable notices helped circulate the group’s name and eventually sparked interest from the U.S.-based Victory Records. Arise and Ruin entered the Victory roster in June 2007, then recorded with Ken Susi—the producer also responsible for their first EP. Their first full-length album, The Final Dawn, was finished by September 2007; the band selected Devil’s Night, October 30th, for its release.
