Biography
Arj Barker, born Arjun Singh in San Anselmo, California, first stepped onto a standup stage after accepting a spontaneous dare. That initial performance sparked an enduring passion, leading him to become a fixture on the West Coast comedy scene while also touring extensively throughout the United Kingdom and Australia. His national breakthrough arrived in 1997 via an appearance on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, after which he quickly established himself as a recurring presence on late-night talk shows. Barker issued his first comedy album, Issue Were Here, in 1999; a year later Comedy Central aired his own installment of Comedy Central Presents. In 2004 the off-Broadway premiere of the Marijuana-Logues took place, a parody of the Vagina Monologues that he had co-written with Doug Benson and Tony Camin. Three years afterward he joined the HBO series Flight of the Conchords as the American friend Devjeet “Dave” Mohumbhai to the show’s titular New Zealand duo. In 2010 Barker signed with Warner Bros. Records and delivered his second album, LYAO.
