Arkan

Metal thrives on the fusion of contrasting influences and backgrounds, a principle exemplified by acts like Arkan that draw from traditions far removed from the genre's typical European and American roots. Established in 2005 to blend Eastern musical elements with metal's Western foundations, the project began under Abder from Dawn of Decline and Foued from the Old Dead Tree. They soon enlisted Mus, Samir, and Florent, leading to the release of the EP Burning Flesh within a year. The distinctive sound earned strong approval, spurring numerous live shows along with expanded sonic exploration that brought in instruments rarely heard in metal contexts. This evolution yielded the band's debut full-length, the Fredrik Nordström-produced Hilal, which arrived in 2008.
