Biography
Art Grayson, a soul performer rooted in Montgomery, Alabama, operated strictly on a local level until 1965. His manager, William "Hoss" Allen, then arranged a recording contract with HBR Records, which placed him on the same roster as the Chocolate Watchband under the imprint tied to the Hanna-Barbera animation studio. He remained with the label for the next two years without any commercial breakthrough. In the same stretch he also played guitar in the house band for Allen’s syndicated television showcase of soul acts, The !!!! Beat. The program ultimately substituted Johnny Jones for him, yet Grayson maintained his career in Nashville into the 1970s, including a brief stint with 4 Corners Records at the close of the 1960s.
