Biography
Film and TV composer and orchestrator Arthur Morton handled the scoring for such motion pictures as The Sand Pebbles, From Here to Eternity, Patton, Chinatown, Superman: The Movie (1978), Planet of the Apes, Escape From the Planet of the Apes, Ocean's Eleven, Our Man Flint, In Like Flint, and the theatrical films spun off from the Star Trek television series. Additional television assignments encompassed ABC-TV’s nighttime soap opera Peyton Place during the 1960s and the long-running CBS-TV family saga The Waltons. Jerry Goldsmith ranked among Morton’s most consistent collaborators.
Born in Duluth, MN, Morton earned his degree from the University of Minnesota. In the 1930s he began his career in the music departments at Hal Roach Studios and Columbia Pictures. Early screen credits include Night Life of the Gods (1935), Riding on Air (1937), Turnabout (1940), The Nevadan, and Rogues of Sherwood Forest (both 1950).
Arthur Morton passed away at age 91 in his Santa Monica, CA, residence on April 15, 2000.
