Biography
The Asexuals, a punk rock ensemble, came together in Montreal, Canada during 1983. Guitarist Sean Friesen, bassist T.J. Collins, and drummer Paul Remington formed the core lineup. Over the years several additional bassists passed through the ranks on an intermittent basis, among them Dom Pompeo, John Kastner, Blake Cheetah, and Yuri Mohacsi. In 1984 the band issued both a debut single and its first album, Be What You Want, for an expanding audience already anticipating further output. Those recordings earned favorable notices yet fell short of capturing the group at full strength, which emerged most vividly during live performances before an energized crowd.
In the years that followed, the Asexuals toured throughout Canada and Europe, sharing bills with major draws such as PiL and D.O.A. After the opening release the band went on to complete several more albums, the last of which, Fitzjoy, appeared on the Cargo Records label in 1997. Songs that fuse hardcore attitude with pop-punk sensibilities include “Time Will Tell,” “Throw Me a Line,” “World for the Taking,” and “Language of Men.”
