Biography
Ashley Gearing had reached only age 12 when her country ballad "Can You Hear Me When I Talk to You" entered the Billboard charts. Her path to Nashville recognition originated in Springfield, MA, where she performed frequently at community gatherings and alongside the Dan Kane Orchestra, a local choir ensemble, during her early childhood. An independently issued CD drew the attention of Nashville songwriter Jimmy Harnen, who invited Gearing to cut a demonstration recording. Stations across Music City and her Massachusetts hometown began airing "Can You Hear Me" right away, creating enough excitement to place Gearing in the midst of competing label offers. Lyric Street, Disney’s country division, secured the deal and released "Can You Hear Me When I Talk to You" as a single ahead of her planned debut album, scheduled for autumn 2003.
