Renowned for his commanding and devout vocal style, Ashok Prince established himself as a key figure in Punjabi folk music through partnerships with respected figures in bhangra and hip-hop production. Born in the village of Nathowal within Punjab’s Jalandhar District, he first developed an interest in singing while still a student. His abilities stood out immediately, leading him to claim numerous contest victories throughout his education, among them a second-place finish at the Inter University Folk Singing competition held at Nakodar Arya College. In 1997 he moved to the Netherlands, where Ghazal singer Manjit Chand provided additional instruction in both vocal technique and musical craft. Performances throughout the Netherlands and across Europe soon followed. The Bhagat Dhanna Jat Sikh Society of Germany named him Best European Singer in 2008. The following year he issued the album Qaid Boly Gayi, produced by fellow Netherlands-based musician Harminder Singh Sangha and issued via Speed Records India. In 2016 he teamed with U.K.-based bhangra and hip-hop producer Tru Skool for the joint release One Time 4 Ya Mind.
