Biography
Askia Modibo, a guitarist, percussionist and vocalist, fuses Jamaican reggae with the traditional music of Mali’s Wassoulou, Tamachek, Bambara and Songhai cultures. Previously a member of Super Tentemba—an offshoot of Les Ambassadeurs—and guitarist in Alpha Blondy’s pre-Solar System band, Modibo sustains his musical lineage through leadership of his own ensemble Tjiladek and through his work as a solo artist. Following three cassettes issued in Mali with Tjiladek, he cut his debut album for international release, “Wass Reggae,” in Paris, working alongside highly respected West Africa producer Ibrahima Sylla.
