Biography
Atakhama came into being during 2004 in Jyväskylä, Finland, after guitarists Simo Rahikainen and J-V Hintikka, bassist Matti Honkonen, and drummer Timo Häkkinen concluded that their prior outfit, Funeris Nocturnum, had reached its conclusion. The group’s new path drew heavy influence from borderline death/black metal acts such as Poland’s Behemoth, Norway’s Zyklon, and the earlier Americans Morbid Angel, leading them to enlist vocalist Jimmy Salmi, secure a deal with Woodcut Records, and launch their debut album Existence Indifferent in April 2005 in the black/death metal hybrid style.
