Biography
Born on 20 December 1930 in Parkin, Arkansas, USA, Pat Hare died on 26 September 1980 in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. His reputation rests chiefly on his guitar work backing Little Junior Parker’s Blue Flames and later the Muddy Waters band in Chicago, Illinois, where he contributed to multiple releases by both acts throughout the 1950s and early 1960s. Before those associations he performed with Howlin’ Wolf and handled session duties at Sam Phillips’ Memphis studio, supporting James Cotton on the latter’s first recordings. During that period he also cut several tracks issued under his own name, among them ‘I’m Gonna Murder My Baby’, though none appeared until long afterward. The song title gained a grim resonance when Hare was convicted in 1964 of murdering his girlfriend and a policeman; he remained incarcerated until his death from cancer.
