Biography
In the closing years of the 1990s, Audra Kubat rose to prominence as one of the Motor City’s notable female singer-songwriters by weaving together folk-rock and indie pop textures. Alongside her band Stunning Amazon she built a steady following in Detroit clubs and coffeehouses while also securing rotation on local radio. Stunning Amazon delivered its self-titled debut in fall 1999, yet Kubat simultaneously sustained her solo work by mining memories of her formative years. She had taught herself piano by ear during childhood and begun composing songs by her early teens. Approaching her late twenties at the turn of the millennium, she performed live whenever possible. Elixir appeared in fall 2000.
