Biography
A Finnish composer by the name of Sallinen received his training at the Sibelius Academy. Following his time as superintendent of The Finnish Radio SO, he rejoined the Academy faculty to instruct students in composition and theory. Lyrical qualities mark his output, which unfolds through a free serial approach. In the 1960's he originated a method that incorporates tonal elements such as triads inside a fresh theoretical framework. His aptitude for expansive dramatic works appears clearly in the opera Punainen viiva.
