Biography
Toronto-based outfit Austin John functions as a lively Canadian indie rock unit fronted by guitarist and songwriter Todd Austin John Elsliger, fusing precise instrumental skill, incisive wordsmithery, and unfiltered pop instincts.
Drawing upon an eclectic spectrum of touchstones such as Elvis Costello, Death Cab for Cutie, Joni Mitchell, Prefab Sprout, and Ron Sexsmith, the group delivered its self-titled debut EP in 2007. Their opening full-length statement, People, Places, Things, surfaced two years afterward. Please Everyone followed in 2012, then the features-heavy Lilac arrived in 2016. Issued in 2020, the nostalgia-heavy third long-player The Better Way Back When completed the sequence.
