Austin Williams approaches traditional country with a sincere yet inventive touch, reshaping its conventions through contemporary production choices. He first drew notice in 2023 with the modulated power ballad “Wanna Be Saved,” a minor-key slow-burner that evoked post-grunge while cloaking its introspective tone in electronic rhythms and textures, an approach that quickly expanded his digital audience. On the debut EP of the same name, Williams underscored his earnest side, though he soon revealed a playful streak by issuing “90s Rap Mashup,” a novelty medley that recast classic hip-hop hooks in country arrangements.
Raised in communities north of Nashville after being born in Tennessee, Williams originally aspired to a baseball career until a back injury at age 15 altered his path. During recovery from surgery, he immersed himself in country music, learning to sing and play guitar on his own. Early social-media clips helped him gather a growing following, which expanded further after he issued the 2022 singles “Are You Really Gone” and “Forever in Your Eyes” while still in his late teens. A consistent run of releases followed in 2023, highlighted by September’s “Wanna Be Saved,” which anchored the accompanying mini-LP that arrived the same month. He closed the year on a lighter note with “90s Rap Mashup” and the additional single “Here We Go Again.”
