Biography
Georgia native Ben Asbury channeled an early obsession with amassing records and a deep interest in sound into his solo endeavor Axxa/Abraxas, which blends music and visual art. Rooted in early-'60s psychedelic pop and fuzzy proto-punk, he began laying down tracks independently during college, where he pursued studies in psychology. Devoting himself full-time to creating artwork alongside demo recordings, Asbury launched RTA Collective, a label and community focused on assembling modest D.I.Y. cassette and CD-R editions that paired with his visual pieces and silkscreened prints. After mailing a demo package to Brooklyn's Captured Tracks, the imprint quickly took on the emerging artist and arranged for Woods member Jarvis Taveniere to assist with recording and producing a full studio debut. That self-titled album appeared in late 2013, its limited run bundled with a book of art.
