Biography
Born in New York to Japanese parents, Ayuo works as a composer whose given name translates literally as “fish life.” Theater serves as the central inspiration for his work, a fixation that has shaped his artistic path since childhood, leading him to shape sonic spaces that do not merely traverse cultural divides but instead establish an entirely fresh domain in which the very notion of a boundary loses relevance. Within the compact opera Izutsu, he assigns equal weight to traditional folk musics and their instruments, classical compositional methods, new age atmospheric textures free of electronic supplements, and passages of genuine improvisation.
