Austrian artist B. Fleischmann gained recognition through glitch-infused, emotionally charged indie electronic recordings issued by Morr Music and Fuzzy Box. His productions typically merge refined digital techniques with post-rock guitar textures and open, occasionally somber melodic lines. After issuing predominantly instrumental works such as A Choir of Empty Beds (2000) and the politically oriented Welcome Tourist (2003), he shifted toward vocal-driven material on Angst Is Not a Weltanschauung! (2008) and I'm Not Ready for the Grave Yet, inserting extended electro-acoustic explorations like For M/Mikro_Kosmos (2011) during the intervening period. Hundreds of his pieces have been composed for stage and screen, several of which were compiled and reworked on the 2022 album Music for Shared Rooms.

Bernhard Fleischmann entered the world in Vienna in 1975 and began piano studies at age eight, taking up drums at the Hinterbrühl music school five years afterward. Between 1988 and 1995 he performed in live ensembles including Speed Is Essential and Sore! The electronic sounds emerging from Vienna drew his attention in 1998, prompting a move to laptop-based creation; his established rhythmic fluency naturally led to intricate time signatures and elaborate syncopated patterns.

Under the B. Fleischmann moniker he issued his debut Pop Loops for Breakfast on Morr Music in 1999, followed by the Sidonie EP the next year. Worldwide touring ensued, and throughout the 2000s his albums gradually returned to acoustic foundations, with A Choir of Empty Beds (2000) and Welcome Tourist (2003) standing out amid surrounding singles, EPs, and extended live documents. He also joined chiptune musician Herbert Weixelbaum in Duo505, whose first release, Late, appeared in 2004, and formed the experimental quintet the Year Of, which produced one album in 2006. That same year saw The Humbucking Coil, while Angst Is Not a Weltanschauung! (2008) featured a contribution from Daniel Johnston.

Following a recording hiatus, the 2011 double live set For M/Mikro_Kosmos appeared, its opening disc honoring the late Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse. The more song-oriented I'm Not Ready for the Grave Yet arrived in 2012, showcasing guitarist Markus Schneider and saxophonist Karin Waldburger. Stop Making Fans surfaced in 2018 with Schneider returning alongside vocalist Gloria Amesbauer and drummer Valentin Duit. Music for Shared Rooms (2022) presented edited and remixed scores originally created for film and theater.
