Alexandra Grübler, the German artist behind the solo project Baal & Mortimer, produces music defined by detached rhythms, fragmented voices, and grainy textures. Her sonic work probes issues of resistance, autonomy, language, and identity. Straddling ambient pop and abstract sound collage, she released her debut album Deixis in 2020, while the 2022 album Con-Struct drew on material from the extensive archive of the late Conrad Schnitzler.

Grübler launched Baal & Mortimer in 2014 while based in Düsseldorf. She later moved to Berlin and served as a resident at Amplify Berlin in 2019 under the mentorship of Laurel Halo. Bureau B issued her first album, Deixis, in 2020. The mini-album The Torso Tapes, co-mixed and mastered by Rupert Clervaux, came out on Italic in 2021. Grübler next took part in the Con-Struct series, which invites electronic musicians to build pieces from sounds in the archive of experimental electronic pioneer Conrad Schnitzler. Bureau B released Baal & Mortimer’s Con-Struct in 2022.
