Biography
Born Derek Coleman on January 7, 1986, in Oakland, CA, Baby DC grew up immersed in the sounds of N.W.A., Too $hort, and Kool Moe Dee. Those early influences sparked his interest in rapping while he was still a toddler, leading him to launch a professional career by the age of five. Too $hort extended an invitation for the young performer to take the stage at a San Jose barbecue drawing 3,000 attendees, after which Baby DC began appearing at shows nationwide. As the inaugural act signed to Too $hort’s Bay Leaf imprint, the 12-year-old released his debut album, School Dayz, in 1998.
