Sean Douglas, Jr., who entered the world in Macon, Georgia, drew on his early immersion in hip-hop—stemming from his uncle’s ownership of a neighborhood studio—to build a rap career, even though refining his lyric-writing skills took several additional years. Familiarity with gang life and a resulting school suspension led him to spend a short period in South Carolina for renewal, where he located his creative direction. Once back home he began posting tracks online, among them the 2019 singles “Jungle Fever” and “Purge,” which illustrated his sharpening craft. Street-level insight supplied the bedrock for his entry into rap, and his steadily maturing delivery and aesthetic have continued to widen his following as his output developed. The track “Purge” first brought widespread online attention in 2019; subsequent partnerships with rising figures including the late Lil Keed and Luh Tyler expanded his sonic palette and prompted a major label to issue his debut mixtape, Jungle Book, in 2024. Momentum increased the next year when Lil Keed, already signed to Young Thug’s YSL roster—one of Atlanta’s leading imprints in the early 2020s—appeared on a remix of “Purge” that surpassed the original’s reach. After maintaining a regular schedule of releases, he concentrated his efforts in 2023, joining Florida’s Luh Tyler on “Groove In” and Keed’s brother Lil Gotit on “Type Shit.” That year he also drew attention for collaborating with Macon officials to post bail for eight nonviolent inmates, allowing them to spend the holidays with family. His first solo release on Epic Records, “No Dissin,” preceded additional previews of Jungle Book such as the reflective acoustic track “Slide Bout It,” which addressed the death of his brother, and the provocative “Freaknik.”
