Biography
Justine "Baby" Washington's sultry vocal style secured her R&B chart appearances across four decades, highlighted by the 1963 Sue Records release of the uptown soul gem "That's How Heartaches Are Made." South Carolina-born and Harlem-raised, she joined the Hearts in 1956 and scored her initial R&B success two years later via Neptune's "The Time." Sometimes credited as Jeanette or Justine Washington, she maintained a presence on the soul listings through the mid-1970s by reviving material with enduring '60s appeal, including the standout track "Only Those in Love."
