Emerging amid a wave of British boy bands in the mid-1990s, Bad Boys Inc. found it difficult to step out from under the dominance of genre frontrunners Take That and East 17. Ian Levine, the producer who had already collaborated with Take That, played a key role in assembling Bad Boys Inc. during spring 1993; the initial roster featured David Ross, Matthew James Pateman, Tony Dowding, Ally Begg and Richard Travis. Travis departed soon afterward to launch a solo career, reducing the lineup to a quartet. Following their signing with A&M Records, the group scored UK singles chart entries via tracks including “Don’t Talk About Love” and “More To This World,” and made multiple appearances on Top Of The Pops. Their self-titled album, issued in October 1994 and regarded as disappointing, reached number 13 on the UK album chart. After the band disbanded in 1995, Pateman and Ross established careers as actors, with the former taking the lead in the West End production Boyband. Pateman also sustained his musical output through the electro pop outfit JEAN, while Begg moved into a low-profile role as a sports television presenter.
