Biography
Bagatelle emerged among the earliest major forces in Irish rock, earning acknowledgment from Bono himself for shaping the initial direction of his own group. Though the band took shape during the early seventies, its breakthrough arrived in 1978 with the hit single “Summer In Dublin.” Subsequent successes followed, including the hit singles “Leeson Street Lady,” “Love Is the Reason,” and “Second Violin,” yet even these releases alongside the 1981 album proved insufficient to sustain activity, prompting the group’s initial disbandment. The original lineup reunited in 1992, after which Polygram issued the compilation Best of Bagatelle and Liam Reilly; a later collection, Bagatelle Gold, followed and achieved platinum status. Liam Reilly, Ken Doyle, and John O’Brien carried the band’s second chapter forward, appearing on stages across many regions.
