An indie pop trio hailing from Berlin, Ballet School fuse elegant sounds from 1980s pop with ethereal shoegaze influences alongside touches of 1990s R&B. The group came together in 2012 when Irish singer Rosie Blair joined forces with Brazilian guitarist Michel Collet. As expatriates immersed in Berlin's vibrant DIY music community, the pair connected through their shared admiration for the Cocteau Twins. Various drummers participated in early rehearsals and performances around the city until British expat Louis McGuire, a fixture of the local scene, joined as the permanent drummer. Once the trio was finalized, they put out the EP Boys Again in 2013 and subsequently inked a deal with the U.K. indie label Bella Union—established by Cocteau Twins members—to issue their first full-length record, The Dew Lasts an Hour, during 2014.
