Banda La Costena

Ramon López Alvarado, after his time with Los Escamillas, chose to form an orchestra of his own. Known alternatively as Reina del Pacifico, Banda La Costeña fields sixteen musicians who specialize in tambora sinaolense, the regional style named for Mexico’s Sinaloa and shaped by its adventurous rhythmic and harmonic experiments. Leadership later passed to Ulises López Carvajal and Edgardo López Carvajal when their father died in the late 1990s. In February 2001 the ensemble marked fifty years of its professional career.
