Emerging in 1990, La Banda Pequeños Musical assembled eight young musicians under the leadership of Rogelio Garcia in Cajititlan de los Reyes, Jalisco. The town sat within a region known as La Laguna de las Bandas, where nearly 60 groups of the same style were active at the time. Versatility and a romantic approach quickly distinguished the ensemble, earning it the designation La Banda Mas Romantica de America.

In 1991 the group joined the roster of Mueca Music and issued its first album, De Brinquito. Festival appearances across Mexico and the United States, together with mounting record sales, attracted the notice of MCM, which added the band to its label and issued the follow-up En Grande. Between 1991 and 2006 the musicians completed more than a dozen releases. Their 2006 effort, La Produccion Maestra, reached number ten on Billboard’s Regional Mexican chart.

Membership has fluctuated over the years, at times expanding to ten players. Regardless of personnel changes, La Banda Pequeños Musical remains one of Jalisco’s foremost musical exports, particularly among Mexican audiences living in the States.
