Detroit-based musician Chad Thompson channels diverse sonic explorations into Bandeau, an indie pop project defined by its fluid and captivating transformations. The outfit's first album, Spirit Fingers, arrived in late 2024 and moves with ease across jazzy new wave, inventive dance-rock, and tender songwriting in the vein of Nilsson.

Thompson gained early recognition in the mid-2000s alongside his brother Keith as co-leader of the art-pop duo Johnny Headband, whose energetic concerts became attractions in their own right. He also works as a filmmaker and animator, and he co-founded the production company Yeah Haus with his wife, artist Michelle Ouellette. Once Johnny Headband issued its final album in 2016, Thompson stepped away from writing songs to concentrate on family and grow Yeah Haus, whose clients eventually came to include Apple TV+, Google, and Adult Swim.

The COVID-19 pandemic led him to purchase a Wurlitzer electric piano and resume songwriting from a quieter, more reflective perspective. Over the following years the multi-instrumentalist began tracking material in his Ferndale studio, performing drums and keys while recruiting his brother Keith on bass and former Johnny Headband guitarist Gregory McIntosh. Bandeau first appeared in 2023 with the single "This Is How it Ends," a driving yet understatedly memorable track that revealed Thompson's updated style while still drawing on established influences. He also resumed performing, shaping Bandeau as an edgy yet affable pop outsider. In December 2024 he gathered the singles released across the year into the finished debut album Spirit Fingers.
