Barbara Massey's vocal talents first emerged in backing roles alongside figures like Jimi Hendrix, Cat Stevens, and Herbie Hancock, marking her path as a soulful artist navigating between rock and jazz genres. Teaming with jazz guitarist Ernie Calabria during 1971 resulted in the psychedelic soul album Prelude To..., which featured a rendition of the Jefferson Airplane track "Somebody to Love."
