Biography
From his origins in Texas, singer/songwriter and guitarist Barry Bynum first stepped into music by assembling multiple garage rock outfits across the 1980s. The most enduring material, however, arose from the spiritually focused songs he began writing after his teenage conversion to born-again Christianity. A five-year residence in Belfast, Ireland, allowed him to lead rock music worship at a city church. Music had already claimed his attention in earliest childhood; he maintains that he “could play the 'uke before I could stay up well on a bike.” At age 16 in San Marcos he formed Liberation Suite, which soon attracted a steady following throughout the British Isles and Europe. When the band disbanded in the early ’90s, Bynum and his wife settled in Belfast and he began recording as a solo artist. Two albums emerged from that turbulent setting: Stickin’ Your Neck Out, cut with Irish session players, and To You, which merged live performances with studio tracks. In 2001 the couple moved back to Texas.
