He became a member of Chico Hamilton’s group in 1974 and that same year began working with Airto and Flora Purim. The following year he entered the Joe Farrell quartet, after which he contributed to sessions and recordings with Hamilton, Hubert Laws, The Tower of Power, and the group Beefy Red. In the mid-'70s he appeared at the Montreux and Monterey Festivals, performing with Hamilton at the former and with Airto at the latter.
