Biography
Formed in New Orleans, the Basin Street Six drew early attention chiefly through the presence of clarinetist Pete Fountain and trumpeter/vocalist George Girard, both still at the start of their careers. The Dixieland sextet, which also featured trombonist Joe Rotis and pianist Roy Zimmerman among its soloists, performed regularly in the city for a stretch and made recordings for 504, Circle, and Mercury, later seeing the Circle sessions reissued on CD by GHB.
