Biography
Formed around veteran guitarists Cheetah Chrome and Sylvain Sylvain, the Batusis deliver boisterous rock & roll marked by an unpolished, high-voltage edge. Chrome, whose résumé includes stints in Rocket from the Tombs and the Dead Boys, shares frontman duties with Sylvain of the New York Dolls; together they steer the group toward fresh, kinetic performances rooted in classic rock & roll yet free of retreads from their earlier catalogs. The two longtime friends finally carved out space in 2009 to launch a recording venture, selecting a band name drawn from the ungainly dance Adam West executed on the Batman television series. Enlisting bassist Enzo Penizzotto and drummer Thommy Price—both temporarily pulled from Joan Jett's Blackhearts—they tracked a four-song EP with producer Ken Coomer that contained three spirited original cuts and a cover of Davie Allan's "Blues Theme." Smog Veil Records issued the Batusis EP in May 2010, after which the band embarked on its maiden U.S. tour, substituting Sean Koos, ex-Blackhearts, on bass and Lez Warner of the Cult on drums.
