Biography
Formed by Chicago musicians Cooper Crain and Bill MacKay, BCMC operates as a psychedelic drone duo. Their debut release, the 2023 album Foreign Smokes, presents four enigmatic and gently whimsical compositions that hover between raga, new age, and ambient space rock.
Crain, known through Bitchin Bajas and Cave, and MacKay, who has joined forces with Ryley Walker and Nathan Bowles among others, previously joined efforts on multiple projects such as MacKay’s Fountain Fire and Walker’s Deafman Glance. In 2021 the pair issued a limited cassette called Ripple in High Tide that foreshadowed the BCMC venture. Drag City put out their first full-length effort, Foreign Smokes, in 2023, built from luminous organ drones alongside delicate guitar lines.
