Beagle

A quintet from Sweden devoted to guitar pop, Beagle operated under the leadership of vocalist and songwriter Magnus Borjeson together with guitarist Calle Hakansson. The members first crossed paths at school, and the band was formally established in 1991, earning a recording contract on the basis of its opening pair of demo recordings. Sound on Sound appeared in 1992 and played a pivotal part in igniting the Swedish guitar pop movement, yet the harder-edged follow-up Within, issued the next year, precipitated the group’s breakup, driven chiefly by an erosion of internal cohesion. Borjeson then teamed with one additional former Beagle participant to launch the band Favorita.
