Biography
Drawing from the textures of ordinary electronic noises, the Arkansas indie rock collective Bear Colony took shape as the creative project of Vince Griffin, supported by musicians drawn from Unwed Sailor, Lovedrug, and Decahedron. A Crohn’s disease diagnosis—later shown to be inaccurate—led Griffin to begin crafting songs alone in his bedroom. Seeking to broaden those initial ideas, he enlisted several friends: Brooks Tipton of Unwed Sailor, Adam Putman, Matt Putman of Lovedrug, Matt Depper of Lovedrug, Chase Pagan, and Kyle Smith. Together this group finished the album We Came Here to Die, issued by Esperanza Plantation in early 2007.
