Biography
Beaten by Them, the experimental indie rock ensemble, originated in San Francisco in 2005 when Australian natives guitarist Andrew Harris and guitarist/keyboardist Max McCormick assembled the project. Cellist Boima Tucker, drummer Ulf Bjorkbom, and bassist Lee Matheson round out the lineup. A 2007 tour prompted recording sessions at John Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone studio, where the group refined its eclectic blend of rock, dance, jazz, and classic sounds. The debut album, Signs of Life, received its initial mix at McCormick's Melbourne-based Logicpole studio before appearing on Thrill Jockey in 2008.
