The Manchester, England outfit Beats for Beginners crafts its appealing electronic style by anchoring '80s synths and drum machines beneath layers of psychedelia and classic pop. Leader Mike TV assembled the group, which attracted the attention of Mint Royale's Neil Claxton and secured a deal with his Faith & Hope imprint in 2003. That same year the band issued the single "Kill All DJ's," then delivered its first full-length album, Don't Fly into the Sun, the following year. Mike TV additionally teams with the Doves' keyboard player Martin Rebelski in the side project Stickers on Keys.
