Biography
Formed in 1994, the indie-pop quartet B'ehl originated in Winnepeg, Manitoba, through singers/guitarists Allison Shevernoha and Melanie Barnes, bassist Bob Somers—who remained active in the Bonaduces—and drummer Dan McCafferty, who divided his schedule with Painted Thin. Performances supporting the Super Friendz, the Local Rabbits, and Nerdy Girl preceded the group’s signing to the local Endearing label, where they tracked their debut LP Only a Paper Moon, released in 1997. McCafferty exited the lineup shortly after that album appeared, and Bonaduces drummer Chris Hiebert took his place; Shevernoha and Somers married before B’ehl issued its second full-length, the excellent Bright Eyes, in 2000.
