Bekay

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Bekay derived his stage name directly from that borough. A contract with the rising independent imprint Coalmine Records, headquartered in New York City, soon followed. Through this arrangement the rapper expanded his catalog of notable tracks with a featured appearance alongside Saigon and Inspectah Deck on “The Raw.” Not long after, he issued the single “Where Brooklyn At?,” which had been recorded with Ol’ Dirty Bastard before the latter’s passing; its flip side, “Young,” had been rumored for inclusion on the forthcoming album Hunger Pains yet ultimately failed to appear. Bekay was later selected for “the Rawkus 50,” the label’s artist-driven initiative highlighting what it considers the next fifty significant figures in hip-hop.
