Born into an illustrious musical lineage as the niece of Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia, Belô Velloso first discovered her voice at age 15 while still rooted in Santo Amaro da Purificação, the town where she remained until turning 19. Upon leaving at that point, she settled in Rio de Janeiro and initiated her professional path through regular club appearances across the city. Her debut release, Belô Velloso, emerged in 1997 and included guest contributions from both Caetano Veloso and Bethânia. The follow-up album Um Segundo earned solid radio rotation on the strength of "A Vida Tem Dessas Coisas" (Ritchie) and "As Curvas Da Estrada de Santos" (Roberto Carlos/Erasmo Carlos). That same year she joined the Novo Canto project aired by Rádio JB FM.
